Ni Hao Dia Duit
Ni Hao Dia Duit - Hello Hello is an intercultural art project initiated by Singapore based artist and curator Jay Koh in collaboration with CityArts to research the formulation of cultural and economic identities of an emerging migrant community in urban spaces.
The research took a series of readings in the vicinity of Parnell Street which has recently become 'a social and economic space' known unofficially as Chinatown. The practice research via workshop actions and informal dialogues explored both the relationship and engagement processes between this 'new' community and Dubliners in its different levels and structures.
The project emerged from three research visits made to the Chinese Community in Dublin between 2005 and 2008. The intention being to explore how to initiate a sustainable engagement with the Chinese community. To this end an artist team was put in place including artists Yajing Huang from Singapore, Glen Loughran, Holly Periera, Thomas O'Connor, Katherine Sankey and Fiona Whitty from Ireland, working together under the curatorial direction of Jay Koh.
Irish support for Ni Hao was receieved from the Dublin Inner City Partnership and the Irish Youth Foundation, with travel support for the Singapore travel from the National Arts Council of Singapore.
